Bright Curse
Bright Curse is a London-based group active since 2012. The band is made up of French musicians living in London, and its line-up centres on singer and guitarist Romain, drummer Zach and bassist Sammy, with JB Pilon later replacing Sammy on bass. The group describes its sound as heavy, with its listed styles including doom metal, psychedelic rock, rock, psychedelic, jazz and metal, and its tags also placing it within stoner rock and stoner metal.
History
The band begins in June 2012, after an improvised jam at a friend’s leaving party. That session leads Romain, Zach and Sammy to start writing and recording together. Their first self-titled album is composed and recorded in the summer of 2012, with JB Pilon co-producing the sessions.
About eight months after the recording, Sammy leaves the group and JB Pilon joins on bass in March 2013. The band signs to Bilocation Records for a limited vinyl edition of its first EP.
Style and themes
Bright Curse builds its songs around shifts in dynamics and contrast. Its lyrics and themes focus on life and death, and the group presents this in terms of the tension between living and dying. The band also describes itself as a French heavy psych rock act.
