Brickwork Lizards

Brickwork Lizards are an Oxford group that combine Arabic and Western musical traditions. The line-up is an eight-piece ensemble using oud, cello, fiddle, guitar, banjo, trumpet and percussion, and their music draws on traditional Arabic forms, jazz, blues, spoken word and hip-hop.

The group are associated with a sound that mixes older stylistic references with Middle Eastern influences and contemporary rap elements. Their repertoire includes songs such as “Higher”, which is described as moving through cello-led passages, western film-style motifs, Russian folk elements, Egyptian-influenced oud, skiffle, jazz and rap.
