Break is a UK drum and bass producer, also associated with dance, deep tech, electronic, house and jungle. He develops music under the name Break and is connected with Degrees of Freedom, Symmetry Recordings and Triii Audio.
Overview
Break grows out of an early interest in breakbeat, drawn from jazz and funk records. He starts playing drums at a young age, learns piano as well, and begins DJing on turntables from the age of fourteen. His work is marked by crisp breaks, heavy bass and strong melody, and he is known for pushing at the edges of his sound.
Career
Break connects with the DNAudio crew in 2001 after meeting Squire through mutual friends. From there, he plays a significant part in the label’s growth and works closely with Silent Witness on a new direction in sound. DJ A-Sides signs his debut track, Cocktail, for the East Side Jamz 2 compilation, and then releases his first solo twelve-inch, Sticky Situation, followed by the Breakout EP and other singles.
Style and influences
His sound draws on a broad set of influences and combines technical drum programming with strong low-end and melodic detail. He is associated with drum and bass, including neurofunk and darkstep, as well as related electronic styles.
