Boyzone

Boyzone are a pop and ballad group from Dublin, Ireland, formed in 1993. Their most familiar line-up includes Keith Duffy, Stephen Gately, Mikey Graham, Ronan Keating and Shane Lynch. The group is put together by Louis Walsh, who also manages acts such as Johnny Logan and Westlife.

Chart success

Boyzone record strong chart results in both the UK and Ireland. They place 21 singles in the UK Top 40 and 22 singles in the Irish charts. They score 18 UK Top 10 hits, 19 Irish Top 5 singles, six UK number ones and nine Irish number ones. They also achieve five number one albums and, by 2013, sell 25 million records worldwide.

Releases and activity

Their first album, Said and Done, is released in 1995. Two more studio albums follow in 1996 and 1998, and they later issue seven compilation albums, including B-Sides & Rarities. Their fourth studio album, Brother, becomes their fourth studio number one album. The album includes the single Gave It All Away, written by Mika, which becomes the lead single and features vocals by Stephen Gately recorded before his death. The group also appears on RTÉ's The Late Late Show before recording any material.

Stephen Gately

Stephen Gately dies in 2009, at the age of 33. After his death, Boyzone release material that includes two songs sung by Gately before he dies, and the group issues a tribute album.

Boyzone are described as one of the most successful bands in Ireland and the United Kingdom, with a run of major singles and albums across both markets. Their catalogue includes 24 UK singles overall, with 12 reaching the UK Top 2.
