Borgore

Borgore is the alias of Asaf Borger, an Israeli dubstep producer, DJ and singer-songwriter from Tel Aviv, Israel. Born in 1987, he is raised in Tel Aviv and later moves to Los Angeles in 2012. He is associated with dubstep and electronic music, and his work is also linked to experimental bass styles.

Background and style

Borgore says his interest in bass-heavy dubstep begins in a Tel Aviv indie club, where he hears early dubstep artists such as Skream, Benga, Mala and Coki. He describes that experience as a turning point, bringing together elements he already likes from drum and bass, trance and hip hop. He soon begins making his own tracks and uploading them online with simple videos.

His music is closely associated with “gorestep”, a style he uses for bass-driven tracks with triplet drum patterns and heavy metal influences. The songs are often described through horror-film imagery and other extreme or provocative themes.

Releases, labels and projects

Borgore releases music through a number of labels, including Dim Mak Records, Spinnin' Records, Sumerian Records and Shift Recordings. He also runs his own label, Buygore, and Buygore Publishing. These labels are part of his wider presence in bass music as both artist and imprint owner.

He is also a drummer for the deathcore band Shabira and performs as part of the dubstep duo Alphamale Primates with Tomba. The duo is listed among his associated acts.

Performance and reputation

Borgore is known for energetic live shows and for presenting himself as a disruptive figure in bass music. His nickname as the “man who ruined dubstep” reflects the extreme, genre-bending approach associated with his sound and image.
