Bop is a drum and bass and IDM producer from Saint-Petersburg, with his origin also associated with Manchester. Born in 1989, he is known for an ambient drum and bass style that also draws on microfunk, minimal drum and bass, deep techno, minimalist dubstep and ambient influences.

Style and influences

Bop develops a cold, atmospheric sound that blends experimental drum and bass with electronic styles such as IDM and ambient. His early listening centres on heavier drum and bass artists including Konflict, Ed Rush & Optical, Cause 4 Concern and Bad Company, before he moves towards the more experimental side of the genre. Photek and Paradox are important influences on his own approach. His wider listening also includes dub techno, free jazz, trip hop and hardcore punk.

He releases on Microfunk Music and Hospital Records. Bop also runs the Microfunk label with Dephecta and operates a free net label called Microcircuit. In addition, he is part of the group Abstract Elements.

Personal details

Outside music, Bop is described as a vegan who drinks green tea and eats bananas. He has a dog called Booyaka, plays classic 8-bit computer games from the 1980s, and lives in a Saint-Petersburg apartment.
