Bones
Bones is the professional name of Elmo Kennedy O'Connor, an American rapper from Howell, Michigan. He is associated with cloud rap, hip-hop and the Sesh scene, and he is known for releasing music at a high pace while remaining outside the major label system.
Background
O'Connor is born to a mother who designs clothing and a father who works as a web designer. His grandfather is actor Robert Culp. He moves to Howell, Michigan, at the age of seven, and later drops out of high school at 16 before moving to Los Angeles, where his brother Elliott is already living.
Releases and output
He releases more than 40 mixtapes and 88 music videos since 2011. In 2014, he self-releases five mixtapes through his TeamSesh label, including Garbage, which receives attention from publications such as The Fader, Pigeons & Planes and RESPECT. He has also releases Saturn in 2013 and Creep in 2013.
Collaborations and collective work
Bones works often with Xavier Wulf and Chris Travis, both former Raider Klan members, and he collaborates with Eddy Baker on the tracks “High”, “Delinquents” and “PayPal”. He is one of the four members of Seshollowaterboyz, alongside Himself, Xavier Wulf, Chris Travis and Eddy Baker.
Live activity and media appearances
He headlines a sold-out show at the House of Blues in Los Angeles and opens for Shlohmo at The Fonda Theatre, also in Los Angeles. The hook from his song “Dirt” appears in A$AP Rocky’s “Canal St.” on the album At. Long. Last. A$AP, and he later performs “Canal St.” with A$AP Rocky on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, although the performance is not included in the television broadcast.
Label independence
Bones and his manager Elliott O'Connor state that major labels show interest in signing him, but he declines. He is described as resisting major-label deals and as not charging money for his music despite his popularity.
