Bombay Bassment

Bombay Bassment is a four-piece band from Bombay, India, formed in 2010. The group’s line-up includes MC and rapper Bob, drummer Levin, bassist Ruell and Chandu on DJ and samples. It is an eclectic act whose sound combines hip-hop, rap, reggae, funk and drum and bass.

Style and background

The band’s members bring different influences and backgrounds to the project. Bob is a veteran MC and DJ originally from Kenya, and he becomes part of the Mumbai music scene after moving there more than a decade earlier. His lyrics and delivery draw on the rhythms of his life and add a distinct character to the group’s dance-oriented sound.

Levin and Ruell are the original founders of Bombay Bassment and have been active on the Indian independent scene for several years. Chandu has 15 years of experience as a DJ and begins as a resident DJ at well-known clubs in Mumbai. He also works as co-producer of Bombay Bassment alongside Deep, the founder of the independent label Indiaudio.
