Bokassa

Bokassa is a stoner punk band from Trondheim, Norway, active since 2015. The group is a power trio whose sound combines the riff-heavy groove of stoner rock with the speed and aggression of hardcore punk. Their own term for the style is stonerpunk.

Style and activity

The band works at the point where punk and stoner rock overlap, using heavy riffs and fast hardcore energy. Their music is identified with extensive touring across Norway and with appearances at several Norwegian festivals, including Trondheim Calling, KlubbØya and Festival Ø.

Recordings and reception

Bokassa’s debut album, Divide & Conquer, receives strong critical attention internationally. Reviews include an 8.4/10 from World of Metal, an 8.5/10 from Portuguese magazine Necromance, and 8/10 from Metal Hammer UK, which also credits the band with creating the term stonerpunk.
