Boca Livre

Boca Livre is a Brazilian MPB group from Rio de Janeiro, active since 1978. The group’s line-up includes Claudio Nucci, Zé Renato and Mauricio Maestro, and its history also includes David Tygel, Fernando Gama and Lourenço Baeta.

Style and recordings

The group releases its first album independently in 1979. Its work is noted for original compositions and for versions of songs by other composers. Boca Livre also uses instrumental and especially vocal arrangements that move away from conventional group metre, with dissonant vocal chords and alternation in the solos.
