Bobok

Bobok are based in Edinburgh, UK, and are founded by the Doumnov Brothers, who are Russian expatriates. The group plays mainly original songs by Misha Doumnov, who writes the material and performs vocals, violin and guitar.

The band includes Misha, Daniil, Balázs, Hutch, George and Richard. Their instruments are vocals, accordion, violin, guitar, trumpet, trombone, bass and drums, with Misha and Daniil singing in four languages: English, Russian, Roma and Serbo-Croat.

Style and repertoire

Their music draws on Balkan brass bands, Russian ska, tango and punk, and combines these influences with cartoon absurdism. The songs deal with displacement, travel, love, loss, the absence of bananas in Siberian concentration camps, and Eating Your Head.
