Blunt

Blunt is a name used by several different acts, including a techno and minimal producer also known as Tony Blunt, a Danish heavy reggae group, an underground UK rapper, a Belgian folk group, a 1990s alt-rock band from Houston, an alternative reggae indie band from Cali, Colombia, a rap artist from Abuja in Nigeria, and a street punk act from the UK.

Danish heavy reggae group

One version of Blunt is a Danish heavy reggae group formed in the summer of 2000. The project begins in early 2000, when Jake, Jimmie and some friends record reggae songs for fun. After that, the former hardcore musicians decide to form a band and write more material. In the summer, they bring in former Candyflip 666 drummer Günter Back, guitarist Jesper Friis from Flipside, and AAO guitar player Mululu. Blunt is a five-piece band.

In spring 2001 the group records a promo, which leads to gigs and stronger publicity. In early 2003 it records its first full-length album, Reggae da Nation. In 2004 the band enters the Emergenza festival contest and reaches the final, and it also enters Livecontest.dk, where it reaches the semi-finals. In June 2004 it appears on the compilation CD Stem svin. Later that month, Mululu leaves the band and is replaced by Mads Schaarup.

Blunt releases its second album, Ten Ton Reggae Machine, in 2008, followed by the EP Pass the Budd in 2009.

Colombian alternative/reggae/indie band

Another Blunt is an alternative/reggae/indie band from Cali, Colombia, originally created in Göttingen, Germany in 2002 by lead singer and composer Luis Felipe Caicedo. The band has a four-piece line-up in Cali after the arrival of David Z. on drums, Diego Prado on lead guitar and Juan Giraldo on rhythm guitar. Its debut EP is I’m not Californian, and the first release from it, Find my way, reaches number one on the top 20 chart at 100.5 FM, the main rock station in Cali, in August 2005.

The video for the band’s first single helps bring it to national attention in 2006. The group describes its style as “Alternative beach Sound”, combining alternative rock, melodic punk, reggae and jazz. Its lyrics focus on social consciousness in a poetic style. Blunt also takes part in the concert campaign A roof for my country. Colombia, supporting homeless people in Colombia and Latin America.
