Blueneck

Blueneck are a UK post-rock group based in North Somerset. They form in 1999 and are active from that point to the present.

Style and development

The band begins on the West Country live circuit, then gradually moves away from regular gigging in favour of a mainly studio-based approach. Their music develops outside the limits of what they can easily reproduce on stage, and it centres on cinematic post-rock textures, ambient atmospherics, dark skeletal rhythms and swelling crescendos.

Their sound uses analogue synths, sparse piano and large, expansive guitars, and it shifts away from conventional songwriting toward a more atmospheric and cinematic form.

Recording and releases

Blueneck record a series of demos that move further into atmospheric territory with each release. For their first full-length album, Scars Of The Midwest, they work with producer Corin Dingley. The album is made after an extended recording period in the hills of Somerset and is presented as a dark, dynamic statement with a distinct sound of its own.

Comparisons

The band operate in a similar post-rock area to Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Sigur Rós, Mogwai and Kwoon.
