Blueflint

Blueflint is a folk group built around the close harmonies of Deborah Arnott and Clare Neilson. Their voices are described as interweaving in ballads and songs that move between melancholy and warmth, with accompaniment from banjos, fiddle, double-bass and drums.

The group’s line-up includes Deborah Arnott on vocals, banjo and ukulele; Hugh Kelly of Longway on double-bass; Clare Neilson on vocals and clawhammer banjo; and Roddy Neilson of Peatbog Faeries on fiddle and vocals. Their sound combines elements of folk and Americana, with songs that move from darker material to more buoyant ballads.

Blueflint releases a debut CD, High Bright Morning, in 2009. The album is produced by composer and producer Jim Sutherland and is noted for its fresh approach to Americana traditions. The group later issues Maudy Tree and tours in the UK and Ireland in support of the release.
