Blue October is a Houston alternative rock band active since 1995. The group forms in Texas and is also based in San Marcos. Its core line-up includes Justin Furstenfeld on lead vocals, Ryan Delahoussaye on violin, viola, mandolin, keyboards and vocals, Jeremy Furstenfeld on drums and percussion, Matt Noveskey on bass guitar, and Will Knaak on guitar. The band starts with Justin Furstenfeld and Ryan Delahoussaye, who are former high school friends and form the group in 1995. Blue October works in alternative rock, pop rock and acoustic rock. It has twelve Top 40 singles across nine studio albums, with six albums reaching the Top 40 charts.
Its best-known release is the platinum-certified album Foiled, issued in 2006. The album includes the singles “Hate Me” and “Into the Ocean,” which help establish the band’s wider profile. Blue October later continues to develop a more optimistic and reflective sound, while Justin Furstenfeld remains the central songwriter and frontman.
The band releases music on its own Up/Down Records label. I Hope You’re Happy is produced by Justin Furstenfeld and engineer Eric Holtz, and reflects the group’s later approach. Furstenfeld also works on a documentary film titled I Want It.
