Blue Amazon

Blue Amazon is a trance group from Huddersfield, United Kingdom, formed in 1994 by Lee Softley and recording engineer James Reid. The project begins as a studio collaboration between two West Yorkshire musicians who meet at a local recording studio called Beaumont St. Reid works there as a trainee sound engineer and records local artists including Shiva, whose work is associated with vocal house. Softley DJs locally and experiments with recording.

The group develops at a time when progressive house gains prominence, with acts such as Underworld, Fluke, Spooky, Justin Robertson, Sasha and The Grid contributing to the scene. Blue Amazon’s sound is shaped by that progressive approach and by the energy of European techno.

Their only album, The Javelin, appears in 1997. It becomes an essential release for listeners interested in progressive house. The group remains active.
