Blood Sport

Blood Sport is a UK alternative rock group from Newcastle upon Tyne, active since 2018. The band is a trio and develops a sound they describe as “aggro-beat”, drawing on west African guitar music, repetition, experimental dance music and techno. Their work sits within post-punk, speed metal, afrobeat and experimental influences.

Music and performance

The group’s live line-up usually includes live drums, a drum machine, baritone and electric guitars, and processed vocals. In some later projects they also expand to synthesizers and other electronic elements. Their recordings and performances focus on the crossover between live performance and club culture.

Hybrid Vigour and collaborations

Blood Sport also operates through Hybrid Vigour, a label and promotions outlet connected to the band’s work. Through this platform they continue to connect their music with the wider industrial art and music community. They also work with experimental and electronic music contexts, including links with Negative Midas Touch, Tidalcycles/Algorave and Giant Swan.

Residency and developments

The band is invited to perform a residency on the Moog Sound Lab, which leads to material intended for later release. Their practice continues to develop around live electronics, repetition and collaboration.
