Blindstone

Blindstone is a Danish rock trio from Thisted, Denmark, active since 2002. The group combines stoner rock, hard rock, blues rock and rock, and its line-up consists of Martin J. Andersen on guitars and vocals, Jesper Bunk on bass, and Anders Hvidtfeldt on drums. Hvidtfeldt joins after original drummer Benjamin Hove leaves a few months after the debut album is released in 2003.

Releases

The band releases nine albums: Manifesto (2003), Freedom's Calling (2008), Rise Above (2010), Greetings From The Karma Factory (2012), Rare Tracks (2012), Live in Denmark (2015), The Seventh Cycle Of Eternity (2016), Blues-O-Delic Celebration - A Tribute To The Blues (2017), Deliverance at The Crossroads (2019), and Scars To Remember (2023). Their recordings mainly consist of original material, although they also record cover versions of songs by artists including Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, Robin Trower, Funkadelic, Frank Marino and The Isley Brothers.

Collaborations and label

All of Blindstone’s albums are released by Grooveyard Records, a New York-based label that specialises in guitar-oriented rock. Andersen and Bunk also appear on George Clinton’s album How Late Do U Have 2BB4UR Absent? (2005), contributing guitar and bass to a cover of “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin On”, alongside Dwayne Dcat Cornelius on drums.

Reception

Freedom's Calling is named record of the month by Cutting Edge Magazine in September 2008 and receives a five-out-of-five rating from Scott Heller on Aural Innovations. Rise Above also receives strong reviews, including a four-and-a-half-star rating from Sea Of Tranquility; that album also includes guest appearances by King’s X guitarist Ty Tabor and Danish guitarist Poul Halberg, and Tabor masters the album.
