Bless is a UK rapper in hip hop. He is one of several artists to use the name Bless, but the relevant act is the United Kingdom–based MC whose work is rooted in rap and battle culture.

Background

Bless grows up around hip hop and begins breaking at the age of eight. By 12, he is already recording demo tracks in the studio. He develops early as a battle MC in Montreal, where by 16 he is building a reputation for live freestyling and appearances on radio shows and open-mic stages. He is known for being able to compete with established local rappers.

Move to New York and collaborations

After establishing himself in Montreal, Bless moves to New York in search of wider opportunities. There he records with producers including DJ Lethal, known for work with House of Pain and Limp Bizkit, and Rahiem of Grandmaster Flash. A turning point comes at the Rock Steady Crew’s 25th anniversary celebration, where he meets Guru of Gang Starr. Soon afterwards, he records Never Ending Saga for Guru’s Baldhead Slick album. That record also features Ice-T, Killa Priest, DJ Premier and Pete Rock.

Touring and media appearance

Bless tours with Guru as his hype man, which gives him international exposure. He also appears in the 2004 video game Def Jam: Fight for NY.
