Black Sun Empire
Black Sun Empire is a Dutch drum and bass group from Utrecht, made up of Rene Verdult and brothers Milan Heyboer and Micha Heyboer. The project begins in the 1990s and is active from 1997 onwards. Their work spans drum and bass, neurofunk, dubstep, electronic and techstep, and they are also associated with darkstep and dnb.
Background
The group starts making drum and bass after hearing artists including Photek, LTJ Bukem and Ed Rush. Before moving into drum and bass, the members are into techno and breaks. Their sound is described as mostly neurofunk, with dubstep also part of their output.
Releases and labels
After a number of releases on smaller record labels, they attract the attention of Trace, who is associated with the DSCI4 label. They later operate their own labels: Black Sun Empire Recordings, Obsessions (BSE) and Shadows of the Empire (BSE).
