Black Rainbows

Black Rainbows are a group from Roma, Italy, formed in 2005. The band’s line-up includes Gabriele Fiori and Filippo Ragazzoni. Their music sits within boogie rock, hard rock, heavy psych, psychedelic rock, space rock and stoner rock.

Background

The group begins as a project intended to be playful and based around heavy psychedelic, stoner and desert sounds. After recording their first full-length album, Twilight in the Desert, they are taken up by Longfellow Deeds Records, a French rock label based in Paris. They remain active from 2005 to the present.

Style and influences

Black Rainbows’ sound draws on 1970s hard rock and heavy rock groups such as MC5, Blue Cheer, Hawkwind and Black Sabbath, alongside later stoner and hard psych acts including Kyuss, Monster Magnet, Fu Manchu, Queens of the Stone Age and Nebula. Their work is described through the overlap of heavy psychedelic rock, stoner rock and desert rock.

Live activity and collaborations

The band develops its sound through live performances and shares stages with a number of other groups and musicians, including Dead Meadow, Black Mountain, Los Natas, Witchcraft, White Hills, Michael Davis of MC5, Vic Du Monte’s Persona Non Grata and Alfredo Hernandez of Kyuss.
