Black Helium

Black Helium are a London-based group formed in 2016. The line-up consists of Stuart Gray on vocals and guitar, Beck Harvey on vocals and bass, Davey Mulka on guitar, and Ben Davies on drums.

The band begins with a one-off Halloween performance at the Guild Navigator club in East London, then continues as a live and recording act. Their first album, Primitive Fuck, is recorded at Hermitage Studios with Margo Broom in March 2017. Davies records his drum parts for the album before leaving, and Diogo Gomes later joins on drums.

Style and influences

Their music draws on psychedelic rock, noise rock, rock and space rock, and is also associated with krautrock, heavy psych and indie rock. Their sound is described through references to hard-edged psychedelic rock and glam rock, with movement between motorik-style drive, cosmic ambient passages and riff-led space rock. Influences named in connection with the band include Black Sabbath, Hawkwind, Amon Düül II and The Stooges.
