Bitcrush is the solo project of Mike Cadoo, a United States electronic musician best known for his earlier work in Gridlock and as Dryft. The project focuses on combining live instrumentation with experimental electronic production, particularly glitch-based techniques, and is associated with ambient, doomgaze, electronic, post-rock, psybient and shoegaze.

Releases

Bitcrush’s debut album, Enarc, appears in 2004 on Component Records. Cadoo describes it as a summary of his musical work up to that point. A follow-up EP, Shimmer and Fade, is issued through en:peg Digital, a sister outlet of n5MD, and arrives in early 2008.

Style

The project’s sound combines processed digital textures with live drums, guitars, dual bass parts and occasional vocals. Shimmer and Fade in particular features heavily altered electronic fluctuations alongside percussion, shimmering guitars and layered bass, and the project continues in this direction, focusing on emotive electronics mixed with post-rock and downtempo elements.
