Bishop Briggs

Bishop Briggs is the stage name of English singer-songwriter Sarah Grace McLaughlin. She is born in London and later bases herself in Los Angeles, California. Her professional name comes from Bishopbriggs in Scotland, the town her Scottish parents are from.

Early life and background

She moves to Tokyo with her parents at the age of four, then later lives in Hong Kong from the age of 10 until 18. While growing up, she hears a wide range of music at home, including Motown and The Beatles, and becomes influenced by Tokyo’s karaoke culture. She first sings in public at a karaoke bar in Tokyo, where she decides she wants to perform for the rest of her life.

She starts writing songs at the age of seven and performs them for her family. After graduating from Hong Kong International School, she moves to Los Angeles and studies at Musicians Institute.

Her music is associated with alternative rock, electronic, folk, indie pop, indie rock and soul, and she is also tagged as indie, British, pop and alternative.
