Birdbrother

Birdbrother is a UK acoustic duo formed in early 2011 by Sussex-based musicians Philip Stapley and Kris Lamba. Their music centres on vocal harmonies, warm melodic guitar parts and songwriting that draws on the natural environment as a source of inspiration.

Style and sound

The duo’s debut album, Peace To The Wanderer, is described as combining layered textures, woven melodies and varied instrumentation. Its sound draws on late 1960s folk, while also taking in traditional British folk, Americana, country, blues and rock. The songs use poetic lyrics and present themes of love, life and spirituality in a romantic and melancholy tone.

Activity

Birdbrother record and rehearse in Sussex, including in Ashdown Forest, and have been active since 2011. Their work is presented as both intimate and expansive, with a focus on original songwriting and a blend of acoustic and folk-informed styles.
