Binker Golding

Binker Golding is a United Kingdom-based saxophonist, composer and occasional conductor. He performs in jazz contexts and is known for work that ranges from rhythm-led collaborations to more avant-garde projects.

Career

Golding performs with a wide range of musicians, including Moses Boyd, Yussef Dayes, Evan Parker and Denys Baptiste. He is associated with a rhythm and riff-heavy collaboration with Moses Boyd, and also works on an avant-garde project with Elliott Galvin.

Albums and recordings

His first quartet album is Abstractions of Reality Past and Incredible Feathers. The album is built around his own compositions and arrangements and places more emphasis on harmonic and melodic development than his earlier collaborative work. It draws on the more through-composed jazz fusion of the 1980s and 1990s.

The recording takes place at Abbey Road Studios and is mixed by James Farber, whose work includes albums by Brad Mehldau, Michael Brecker and Joe Lovano.
