Billie Eilish is an American singer and songwriter from Los Angeles. Born in 2001, she performs in styles including alternative pop, alternative R&B, art pop, bedroom pop, contemporary R&B and electronic music, and is associated with pop, indie pop, electropop, art pop and alternative.

Early life and development

Eilish is born and raised in Los Angeles. She grows up in a household of actors and musicians and is homeschooled with her brother Finneas O'Connell. At the age of eight, she joins the Los Angeles Children's Choir, where she develops the vocal style that later appears on her early recordings.

Recording career

She first gains attention with the singles "Six Feet Under" and "Fingers Crossed", before breaking through with "Ocean Eyes", which she co-writes with FINNEAS and releases through Interscope. The song attracts more than 14 million online streams and leads to remixes by Astronomyy, blackbear and Goldhouse. She follows it with "bellyache" in February 2017 and later places "Bored" on the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why.

Later in 2017, she releases the EP dont smile at me, which includes the singles "COPYCAT" and "watch". Her debut album, WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?, follows in 2019 on Interscope Records. She then releases Happier Than Ever in 2021 and HIT ME HARD AND SOFT in 2024, which includes "LUNCH", "WILDFLOWER" and "BIRDS OF A FEATHER".

Awards and recognition

Eilish wins five Grammys in 2020, including Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best New Artist. She also wins a Brit Award for International Female Solo Artist, and her James Bond theme "No Time to Die" earns her and Finneas an Academy Award for Best Original Song. She later wins two further Grammy Awards and another Oscar for "What Was I Made For?", written for the Barbie soundtrack.
