Biga Ranx

Biga Ranx, styled Biga*Ranx, is a French reggae and hip hop artist from Tours, France. His work also sits within dancehall, electronic, ragga and ragga hip-hop. He is born in 1988.

Career

In 2004, Biga Ranx creates the Bandalero Sound System with DJ Atili, sometimes featuring the Ondubground collective. He later works with Austrian DJ Governor General Rugged on the Mus Bus Collective. In 2008, Jamaican singjay Joseph Cotton adds “Ranx” to his name, giving him the name he uses professionally.

In 2011, he signs to the French label X-Ray Production and begins work on his debut LP, On Time, which is released later that year. The album is named best ragga/dancehall album in France by Reggae.fr. His second album, Good Morning Midnight, follows in 2013.

Releases and collaborations

In 2012, he releases The World of Biga*Ranx, a project made up of four 12-inch records, each created with a different producer: Maffi, Ondubground, Kanka and Mungo’s Hi Fi. He also releases a remix version of On Time in 2012, with tracks reworked by artists including Chinese Man, Aphrodite, A State of Mind and Tom Fire.

Joseph Cotton appears on On Time, and Biga Ranx often works with him. He also makes a documentary in Jamaica with France Ô in 2012, Biga*Ranx en Jamaïque, which is broadcast in 2013 and follows his trip to Jamaica, where he meets reggae figures including Potential Kidd.

Live work

Biga Ranx tours nationally after On Time and Good Morning Midnight, performing with his live line-up across France. He also appears at festivals including Garance Reggae Festival, Reggae Sun Ska Festival, Solidays and SummerJam, and performs at La Cigale in Paris.
