Big Freedia

Big Freedia is the stage name of Freddie Ross Jr., a rapper, singer and performer from New Orleans, United States, born in 1978. She is associated with bounce music, the New Orleans hip hop style that develops in the early 1990s, and she is credited with helping to bring wider attention to the genre. Her music is also linked with alternative hip hop, electro and hip hop.

Freedia emerges locally in 2011 and in 2013 gets a reality show on the Fuse channel, which follows her life on tour and at home. Her debut album, Just Be Free, follows in 2014. She also publishes an autobiography, God Save the Queen Diva!, in 2015.

In 2016, she appears in a New Orleans television advert for Juan LaFonta Law Office, performing with bounce music and dancers. She releases the EP Third Ward Bounce in 2018, the second studio album Central City in 2023, and the album Pressing Onward in 2025. She uses she/her pronouns and describes herself as gender fluid, while saying she is comfortable with either he/him or she/her being used for her.
