Big D and the Kids Table
Big D and the Kids Table are a ska punk group from Allston Village in Boston, Massachusetts, active since 1995. The band forms in October 1995 and signs to Springman Records. Their name comes from a suggestion by a friend, who calls the group “the kids table” because he sits there when he has dinner at Dave’s house.
Style and subject matter
The band’s music is rooted in ska punk and punk. Their songs often draw on the personal lives of the members, especially financial difficulties they have faced.
Releases and recordings
Among the band’s releases is Strictly Rude. They also work on an electro mashup album with Boston DJ BC titled Strictly Mixed and Mashed.
Label and local activity
Members of the band also run Fork In Hand Records, a Boston-area label that releases albums by Big D and by other local Boston artists.
Live shows and touring
Big D and the Kids Table hold an annual Halloween show at the Avalon in Boston. They also appear on the Warped Tour and the Ska Is Dead tour, sharing bills with underground punk and ska acts.
Recognition
In 1999, the band receives Boston Music Awards recognition as Outstanding Ska Band.
