Big Ass Truck

Big Ass Truck is a Memphis rock group from Tennessee, active from 1992 to the present. The band forms around core members Steve Selvidge on guitar and Robert Barnett on drums, and its sound is described as psychedelic funk. The group gains a following in the southern United States through touring, especially across the Southeast.

Releases and labels

The band releases its debut album on a local label in 1995. After touring, it comes into contact with Upstart Records in Boston through Robert Gordon, author of It Came From Memphis. Upstart reissues the debut album and also releases the follow-up album Kent. The band then works with Yep Roc Records for later material.

The Sack Lunch EP appears in 1997, with the first half recorded in a studio and the second half recorded on a four-track in the group’s practice space. Who Let You in Here appears in 1998, and The Rug is released in 2001.

Later activity

Robby Grant, the band’s guitarist and vocalist, releases several solo albums. Grant and Barnett later form the indie rock project Mouserocket.
