Big Al

Big Al is a person associated with electronic music, DJing and production, and is also noted in connection with Big Al & The Star Treks. He is based around a career that spans club performance, studio work and label activity.

Music production and labels

He is described as the main figure behind Ready Mix Records, and also behind Empty Whisky Flask Records, Itom Records and Haute Musique. He works as a founder and as one half of several production projects, including Beat Factory, The Suppliers, Harlem Knights and Soul Collective.

His original tracks and remixes appear on a long list of labels, including GU, Baroque, Armada, Ministry of Sound, Aenaria, USB Digital, Sick Watona, Nightshade Music, Outta Limits, AlterImage, Acryl Music, Soulman Music, Nightbird Records, Grouper Recordings, Dutchie Music, Vapour Recordings, Outside The Box Music, Night Drive Music, Lens Media, Low Flow Records, Bad Pony Records and Klang Gymnastik.

Big Al remixes tracks for Stan Kolev, Krummstoff, Addex, Shiloh, Ricky Ryan, G-Spice, Tone Depth, Eelke Kleijn, Sebastian Davidson, Mastercris, Onur Ozman, J&M Brothers, Sendos Fuera, Art Patrice and Re-Zone, among others. In the studio, he also works as the personal programming and sound engineer for Angel Moraes in New York, and masters promo DJ mixes for club Stereo that include sets by Frankie Knuckles, David Morales, Hector Romero and Chus & Ceballos.

DJ work and residencies

He is presented primarily as a DJ and is described as a strong presence behind the decks. His residencies include B018 Beirut, Circus Montreal and Cubes Abu Dhabi, and he previously spends five years at Stereo in Montreal, where he also serves as Talent Buyer and Artist Relations Director.

He hosts global editions of the Ready Mix Sessions events in Beirut, Miami, Montreal, Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Amman, alongside internationally broadcast radio shows and podcasts. He plays internationally, including in Los Angeles, London, New York, Ibiza, Dubai, Miami, Beirut and Toronto.

Recognition and appearances

He is selected as one of Montreal’s Top 3 Beat Masters by Hour Magazine, wins a JPF Award in 1999 for best song on a mixed compilation, and is nominated by The Daily Star in Lebanon as the number one DJ/producer in the world with Arabian or Middle Eastern origins in 2001.

He appears at events including the Renaissance event in Beirut with Satoshi Tomiie, Creamfields Festival in Abu Dhabi in 2009 and 2010 with artists such as Sasha, David Guetta, Sebastien Leger, Marco Carola, Erick Morillo, Deadmau5, Underworld, Laid Back Luke, Desyn Masiello and Calvin Harris, the Circus event in Beirut with Steve Lawler, the Gatecrasher event in Beirut with Anthony Papa, and Poliakov events with Cosmic Gate and Nick Warren.
