Between the Buried and Me

Between the Buried and Me is a progressive metal group from Raleigh, United States, active since 2000. Their sound is placed across mathcore, metal, metalcore, progressive metal and progressive metalcore, and it also draws on thrash metal, death metal, jazz, math rock and melodic hardcore, alongside progressive and experimental acts such as Dream Theater, Mike Patton, King Crimson, Queen and The Mars Volta.

Origins and membership

The group forms from former members of metalcore acts Prayer For Cleansing and Glass Casket. Core members include vocalist and keyboardist Thomas Giles Rogers Jr., also known as Tommy Giles Rogers Jr.; lead guitarist Paul Waggoner; guitarist Dustie Waring; bassist Dan Briggs; and drummer Blake Richardson. Other members listed at various points include William, Nick Fletcher, Jason King, Mark Castillo, Andy Lewis, Shane Blay, Kevin Falk and Jason Roe.

Recordings and releases

The band records eleven albums, in addition to a covers album and an EP. Its recorded catalogue includes the debut Between The Buried And Me (2002), The Silent Circus (2003), Alaska (2005), The Anatomy Of (2006), Colors (2007), The Great Misdirect (2009), The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues EP (2011), The Parallax II: Future Sequence (2012), Coma Ecliptic (2015), Automata I and Automata II (2018), Colors II (2021) and The Blue Nowhere (2025).

Label history

The group signs to Victory Records in 2003 and later moves to Metal Blade Records in 2012. Its label listing also includes VOT Dreamtech.

Line-up history

Former members named in the group’s history include guitarists Marc Duncan, Nick Fletcher and Shane Blay; bassists Jason King and Kevin Falk; and drummers Will Goodyear, Jason Roe and Mark Castillo. The wider membership list also includes Andy Lewis.
