Betraying the Martyrs

Betraying the Martyrs are a French deathcore and metalcore band from Paris, active from 2008 to 2023. They also sit within the broader French metalcore, deathcore and symphonic metal scene. The group forms in December 2008 with the aim of writing heavy material, delivering a strong live performance, and presenting a message built around positive thinking and good morals.

Early releases and touring

The band records its first track in Paris in February 2009 with producer Stéphane Buriez of Loudblast. Its first EP, The Hurt, The Divine, The Light, follows in November 2009 and receives a strong response, helping the band tour the UK, France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Switzerland. The release later sells widely across Europe and builds a large audience for the group.

Line-up changes and debut album

In 2011, the band undergoes major line-up changes when guitarist Fabien and singer Eddie leave and are replaced by Lucas and Aaron. After that, the group releases its debut album, Breathe In Life. The project continues to emphasise lyrics and ideas intended to raise awareness of positive messages, Christianity, new ways of life, happiness, and general personal wellbeing, and it also supports positive organisations and associations where possible.
