Bernard Sumner is an English singer-songwriter, guitarist, keyboard player and producer from Manchester, United Kingdom. Born in 1956, he is known for his work in rock and related styles, including new wave, post-punk, electronic and synthpop.

Career

Sumner is a founding member of Joy Division and New Order. He also forms part of Electronic with Johnny Marr, and is associated with Be Music, Stiff Kittens and Warsaw. He fronts the third iteration of New Order.

Aliases

He is also known as Bernard Dickin, Bernard Dicken and Bernard Albrecht.

Additional note

The name Bernard Sumner is also used as an alias by demoscene musician Phil Bak, who writes hundreds of songs between 1990 and 1997.
