Benthos

Benthos are an Italian experimental progressive metal group from Milano. Active since 2018, the band includes Alberto Fiorani, Gabriele Landillo, Gabriele Papagni, Alessandro Tagliani and Enrico Tripodi.

Style and sound

Their music combines avant-garde, metalcore, progressive metal, progressive metalcore and progressive rock elements. They also draw on mathcore and post-hardcore, and their sound moves between tightly controlled passages and more unpredictable, abrasive sections. Alongside the heavier material, their work also includes melodic, jazz-influenced and atmospheric moments.

Career

Formed in 2018, Benthos gain early attention on the Italian metal scene and open for The Contortionist in 2019. Their debut album II establishes their approach through intricate rhythms and layered guitar work. After their 2022 The Essence Tour, they appear on the main stage of Dissonance Festival 2023 alongside Meshuggah, Soen and Destrage.

From Nothing

Their second album, From Nothing, appears through Inside Out Music and is mixed by Federico Ascari and mastered by Tony Lindgren at Fascination Street Studios. The 12-track release explores the effects people leave on society over time, and includes the track “Fossil” and the title song “From Nothing”.

Live reputation

The band is also known for intense live performances, with shows described by their shifting dynamics and sudden changes in atmosphere.
