Benny the Butcher is a US rapper from Buffalo, New York. Born Jeremie Pennick in 1984, he works in hip hop and is associated with Griselda, Trust Gang and Black Soprano Family. He is part of Griselda alongside Westside Gunn and Conway The Machine, and he is also part of the collective Black Soprano Family.

Early career

Benny the Butcher decides by the age of ten that he wants to work in music. In the late 2000s, he self-releases mixtapes under the name B.E.N.N.Y., including The Mayor's Back and Chains Bond.

Griselda and releases

In 2014, Westside Gunn founds Griselda Records, and Benny, Conway and Westside Gunn use the label to self-release their projects. Benny releases his album My First Brick in 2016, followed by the mixtape Butcher on Steroids with DJ Green Lantern in 2017.

On 3 March 2017, Griselda Records signs a deal with Shady Records, the Interscope subsidiary run by Eminem.

Notable projects

In 2018, Benny releases Tana Talk 3, produced by The Alchemist and Griselda associate Daringer. The album includes appearances from Westside Gunn, Conway and Royce da 5'9", and it draws critical acclaim, helping him reach wider attention.

He follows it with the extended play The Plugs I Met in 2019, which features Black Thought, Pusha T, 38 Spesh, Jadakiss and Conway The Machine.

Management

Benny later signs a management deal with Roc Nation.
