Benjamin Zephaniah

Benjamin Zephaniah is a British dub poet, writer, actor, musician and professor of poetry and creative writing. He is born in Handsworth, United Kingdom, and his full name is Benjamin Obadiah Iqbal Springer. He dies in 2023.

Music and poetry

His work is associated with dub poetry and reggae. He releases seven albums of original music, including Dub Ranting, Rasta LP, Free South Africa, Back to Roots and Naked. Naked is released by One Little Indian Records.

Notable achievements

Zephaniah is the first person to record with the Wailers after the death of Bob Marley, on a musical tribute to Nelson Mandela. In November 2003, he rejects an OBE.
