Ben Westbeech

Ben Westbeech is a British DJ, producer and singer born in 1981 and originating from Hertfordshire, England. He works in downtempo, electronic and jazz, and is also associated with acid jazz, soul and funk.

Background

Westbeech is trained as a cellist and vocalist. His influences include house, soul, jazz and hip hop. He now lives in London.

Recording career

His first single, So Good Today, reaches Gilles Peterson after a friend in London plays him a CD containing the track. This leads to Westbeech being signed to Brownswood Recordings, the label founded by Peterson.

His debut album, Welcome to the Best Years of Your Life, is released in 2007. He later appears on Later... with Jools Holland alongside Paul McCartney and Björk.

In 2008, he features on Kraak & Smaak’s track Squeeze Me, from the album Plastic People. His second album, There’s More to Life Than This, follows in 2011.
