Ben Fraser is a Sheffield-based electronic artist and DJ whose work centres on techno, trance, psytrance and Goa trance, with a sound described through deep, dark and driving acid-tinged production. After 12 years as a drummer, he moves into electronic music after reaching the point of an album deal with the Swiss punk band Tastes Like Chicken, now known as BMC.

Early background

Before focusing on electronic production, Fraser spends 12 years playing drums. That background remains important to his live performances, which include improvised percussion and a punk-style drumming approach. His live sets are built around energetic, performance-led delivery rather than standard DJ presentation.

Recording and labels

Fraser's first release appears on Planet Zogg Records in 2005. He later sets up Sabretooth Records as a label for his own productions and related projects. His work appears under his own name, as well as through the Sabretooth alias, and he also releases material through Titan Traxx Digital and Deprivation Digital.

His discography includes Tauism EP, Prowl EP, Monster Mash EP, Kontek EP, DJ Fuk EP, Atomic Train EP, Feeding Frenzy EP, Grimlock EP, Driving You, and Black Velvet. He also releases Sabretooth under the Sabretooth name, distributed by Arabesque.

Collaborations and remixes

Fraser works with Greg Zogg on Exit Light, Tribal Balm and Faith Lift, and with Chris Berg on Afterburner. Other remix credits include Robbie Muir's Dont' Be Screaming, Nailbomb's Epsilon, Distorted Robocops v DJ Whyld's Heavens, CrazyTeck's Psycho, Flawless's Spawn, Oberon and Harding's The Comet, Propulsion's Uplifted or Twisted, and JP and Jukesy's The Hustler, the last of which is credited as a Ben Fraser and Skin Phillips remix.

Live performance

He takes a live PA across the UK and beyond, with performances at underground clubs and events including Planet Zogg in Sheffield, Underground City in Birmingham, Neuroshocked in Szczecin, Ripsnorter in Bristol, Riff Raff in Leeds, Sunrise in Manchester, Absurd Grooves in Krakow, Cabbage in Leeds, Psycle in Nottingham and Shamania Festival. He also holds resident slots at several of these nights and events.

Sabretooth project

Fraser also develops a full-on psy trance project called Sabretooth. This project builds on his long-standing interest in Goa trance and aims for a cleaner, more direct version of the driving style associated with his solo work.
