Below the Neck

Below the Neck are a melodic hardcore band from Inverness, active since 2018. The group plays metallic hardcore, metalcore and hardcore, with a sound also described as melodic hardcore and Scottish hardcore.

Line-up

The band consists of Thomas Woolley on vocals, Rory Troup on guitar, Finnbar Connell on drums and Ciaran McKenzie on bass. Conor Hedges and Johnny Fowler are former members; they depart in 2024, and McKenzie joins as the band’s new bassist that same year.

History and releases

Below the Neck make their live debut in September 2018, supporting Spoke Too Soon at the Ironworks in Inverness. Their first release, Waste of Life, follows a year later. The second EP, An Imminent End, is recorded in October 2020 during the COVID-19 lockdown, then appears in June 2023 after a gradual single-by-single rollout. It is the last EP to feature founding members Hedges and Fowler. In April 2025, the band releases Post Imminence, described as the final two studio recordings by Hedges and Fowler with the group.
