Belly

Belly is a US alternative rock band from Boston, Massachusetts, active from 1991 to 1996 and reunited in 2016. The group forms around Tanya Donelly, formerly of Throwing Muses and also a member of The Breeders with Kim Deal, and Fred Abong. The line-up includes Donelly on lead vocals and bass, Abong on bass, Tom Gorman on guitar, and Chris Gorman on drums.

The band’s music sits in alternative rock, dream pop and jangle pop. It releases on 4AD and is associated with the 1990s alternative scene. The band members are from Newport, Rhode Island, although the group is based in Boston.

Albums and singles

Belly scores an alternative hit in 1993 with “Feed the Tree”. Its debut album, Star, reaches number two on the UK albums chart, and its 1995 follow-up, King, reaches number six. The third album, Dove, is released in 2018.
