B.E.F.

B.E.F., short for British Electric Foundation, is a group from Sheffield, United Kingdom, formed by Martyn Ware and Ian Craig Marsh. It begins as a transition project between The Human League and Heaven 17, with Ware and Marsh carrying over their role as the main creative force behind the original Human League before moving on to new work under this name.

The group’s early sound is described as cold and experimental, and it is linked in style to The Future, the pre-Human League project Ware and Marsh make with Adi Newton, who later becomes known for Clock DVA. B.E.F. then changes in both name and direction when Glenn Gregory joins, at which point it becomes Heaven 17.

Ware and Marsh remain the members associated with the project, which is active from 1980 to the present.
