Beefcake

Beefcake is a German electronic duo made up of Volker Kahl and Gabor Schablitzki. It is active from 1997 to 2004 and is associated with IDM, drum and bass, experimental electronica, glitch, industrial, dub, breakcore and illbient.

The duo is based in Germany and records as an IDM and drum and bass project. Volker Kahl also uses the name Kattoo, while Gabor Schablitzki is also known as DJ Gabor and Robag Wruhme. The pair release music on Hymen Records and appear on label compilations.

Releases

Beefcake’s first release is Spontaneous Human Combustion, issued in 1997 on Hymen Records. Across its output, the group releases three LPs, four EPs and a B-sides compilation. Its music is described through a broad experimental electronic style, with emphasis on rhythmically complex and distorted sounds.

Activity

The group becomes inactive in 2004. Its stated position is that no further release follows, and its catalogue remains centred on the work it issues during the late 1990s and early 2000s.
