Beauty School Dropout
Beauty School Dropout is a UK-based pop punk group. The band forms in Los Angeles around vocalist Cole “Colie” Hutzler, bassist Brent “Beepus” Burdett and producer-guitarist Bardo Novotny. Hutzler begins the project as a solo venture while he is still part of alt-rock group Strangefaces. After Strangefaces disperses, he brings in Burdett, a former bandmate, and Novotny completes the lineup. The group also uses a live drummer for touring.
Early releases and collaborators
The band works on its debut EP with Jason Aalon Butler and Rob Cavallo as executive producers. Their sound draws on alt-rock, pop, punk and hip-hop influences. The BOYS DO CRY EP is released through Version III and includes collaborations with Butler and Royal & the Serpent.
Further releases and label connections
Beauty School Dropout later issues We Made Plans & God Laughed through Verswire in association with Version III. This release has heavier guitar tones and a more aggressive edge while remaining melodic. Mark Hoppus of blink-182 acts as an early mentor and helps develop the trio through Verswire, alongside music manager Nick Lippman and Veeps founder Sherry Saeedi. Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy also serves as an advisor to the label. Hoppus appears on the single “ALMOST FAMOUS.”
Touring
The band plays its first headlining tour later in the same period as We Made Plans & God Laughed.
