BDRMM

BDRMM is a group from Kingston upon Hull, United Kingdom. It works in electronic, indie rock and shoegaze, and it is formed by Danny Hull, Luke Irvin, Ryan Smith and Joe Vickers.

Background

The act develops from Ryan Smith’s solo project into a full band. It builds a reputation in northern England through appearances at events such as Tramlines and Humber Street Sesh, while Smith continues writing and recording material for the project.

Releases and sound

Its early release Crike comes first as a debut, followed by Yucky, a six-track EP built around hazy, reverb-heavy production and dreamy vocals. The opening track, “GCSE Bitesize”, is an instrumental piece with a spacious, reverb-laden sound. “D.a.d” uses softer melodies and gentle chords, while “Aw (inter lube)” keeps a mellow feel with distorted vocal samples. “Paft, dunk” draws on 1980s-style synth textures and a gradual build, and “Happy” is described as a Jaws-inspired track with shimmering guitars and layered vocals. The EP closes with “Call (U!) Up”.

Style and reputation

BDRMM is associated with a hazy chillwave-influenced aesthetic, with the material on Yucky presenting dreamy vocals, atmospheric guitars and a subdued, melodic approach that places it within the wider shoegaze and indie rock field.
