BC Camplight

BC Camplight is the recording name of Brian Christinzio, a singer-songwriter born in 1980 and associated with New Jersey and the United Kingdom. He is based in Manchester and is described as a Manchester singer-songwriter. His work sits in indie pop, indie rock and psychedelic pop.

Career

Christinzio begins releasing music as BC Camplight with the album Hide, Run Away in 2005. That record is issued by One Little Indian and features Cynthia G. Mason on vocals. His second album, Blink of a Nihilist, follows in 2007.

After relocating to England, he signs to Bella Union and releases a run of albums there: How To Die In The North, Deportation Blues, Shortly After Takeoff and The Last Rotation Of Earth. These albums appear across the 2010s and early 2020s.

Live band

The BC Camplight live band includes Christinzio on piano and vocals, alongside Hattie Coombe on vocals, Stephen Mutch on bass, Jonno “Espranto” Prestbury on guitar, Adam Dawson on drums, and Robbie Rush on keyboard and guitar. Coombe, Mutch, Prestbury, Dawson and Rush are described as Mancunians.

Reception

Hide, Run Away receives strong critical attention, with reviews describing it as one of the best records of its year. Time magazine also describes Christinzio as “a name to become synonymous with star quality”.
