Bateleurs
Bateleurs are a four-piece band that blends folk, rock and alt-country. The group centres on the shared lead vocals and harmonies of Daryl Ball and Sean Amor. Ball sings with a smooth voice that has an Irish inflection, while Amor’s vocal style is more tender and edged. They are joined by Chris Mac and Nick Wall, both described as experienced musicians.
The band’s line-up uses a wider range of instruments than the usual guitar, bass and drums setup. Alongside those core instruments, Bateleurs also use mandolin, fiddle, ukulele, harmonica, recorder, jaw harp and cajón. Their material moves between delicate passages and louder, more forceful sections, with a set built around changes in style and tempo.
Bateleurs release original material in 2010 with the New Day Rising EP, which receives favourable airplay and positive reviews. The EP is available for download through iTunes and Amazon. The group is also preparing its debut album in 2011.
