Basic

Basic is a psytrance group from northern Israel made up of Benny Risher and Shahar Fahima. The pair meet at a party, where Shahar is DJing, and begin working together under the Basic name. Their music draws on atmospheric melodies, strong bass lines and groove, and their backgrounds include classical music, reggae, rock and blues.

Members and earlier work

Benny Risher is born in 1974 and starts his psy-trance activity in 1994, while in his twenties. After four years travelling in Goa, India and Thailand, he returns to Israel in 1998 and forms the Diablo project with Avihen Livna, also known as Cosma. After the release of the Diablo album, he suffers a serious back injury and does not write music for a couple of years. In 2003, he releases a track as Experience X as a tribute to Cosma.

Shahar Fahima is born in 1982, studies composing, and begins making music at 16. He experiments with different sounds and starts producing psytrance under the name Spasm at 18.

Releases and collaborations

Basic signs tracks to various compilations around the world, including Master System, Facing The Sun, Basic Technologies, Japanic, Sushi & Wasabi, Neverland, Sync, Toyster, Days of Power, and Virtual Space. Releases and appearances are associated with labels and imprints including BNE/YoYo in Israel, Hyperflow/Flow Rec in Portugal, Sirius Records in Japan, Crystal Matrix in Portugal, Utopia Records, YoYo/BNE, Psytropic Records, and Mindfactor. The project also appears on Echotek vs Basic - Mindfactor and releases Basic - Vitrual Space on BNE in 2007.

In 2007, Basic releases its debut album, Theory of Hype, on BNE/YoYo. The album establishes an international reputation and is followed by extensive touring. The duo also collaborates with Atomic Pulse, Timelock, Massive and Echotek, including atomic pulse - metaluna (basic rmx), Timelock Vs Basic - Time theory, Basic VS Massive – Overdrive, and Echotek - Back2mind - Basic rmx. The track Mind factor by Basic vs Echotek is selected for Christopher Lawrence’s Live in Moscow Gatecrasher series.
