Barrule

Barrule is a Celtic folk trio from the Isle of Man. The group forms in 2012 and features Tomás Callister on fiddle, Jamie Smith on accordion and Adam Rhodes on bouzouki.

The trio performs original material alongside traditional Manx and Gaelic songs. Its repertoire includes marches, jigs, slow airs and songs in the Manx Gaelic language, and it presents a modern interpretation of music from the Isle of Man while retaining the island’s distinct musical identity.

Barrule takes its name from Barrule, the hill associated in legend with the Celtic god Manannán mac Lir. The group wins the Spiral Earth award for Best Debut in 2014 and receives the Trophée Loic Raison at Festival Interceltique de Lorient.

The band appears at major festivals including Celtic Connections, WOMAD Charlton Park, Sidmouth, Lowender Peran Festival in Cornwall, and the National Celtic Festival in Melbourne. It is also featured in the debut issue of Celtic Family Magazine in autumn 2013.
